Komodo National Park is an arid and rugged national park encompassing the islands of Komodo, Rinca, Padar, and Gili Motong is the domain of the world's biggest lizard, the Komodo Dragon. At 3 metres and 90 kilos this carnivore feeds on prey as large as monkeys, wild boar and small deer. Best to visit the Komodo Dragon from June to September and organize a hike into the surrounding savanna and montane forest to observe other endemic reptiles, macaques, fruit bats and about 150 species of birds, including the imperial pigeon, sulfur-crestyed cockatoo and orange-footed scrubfowl.
